Sounds good - doesn't work. They need the two party system to maintain the appearance of democracy when nothing important changes. If there was only one strong, supported party, people could possibly start to think for themselves, and a new party could emerge that would actually do something for the people, not the big corporations. They cannot let that happen.

The USA would not split that way. The southern states would once again try to form a confederacy, Texas and California wanted to be republics and for their own reasons would do so. Other states would join together to form their own coalitions and in the end you would have a dozen or so groups pitted against each other. Your concern should be that the USA has a scorched earth policy meaning that in the event that the USA is invaded by an overpower force or becomes so unstable that the government becomes over thrown we nuke ourselves.
